What’s Behind the Sky?
Sharon Kantor – writer, musician, and radio personality, and Adaya Godlevsky – composer and harpist, teamed up to create a unique, sensitive, and optimistic show for children age 4-9: a special book reading combined with original songs and accompanied by live acoustic and electronic harp music.
The show was born out of an invitation from the bookstore “The Migdalor” to hold a special book reading of Sharon Kantor’s “Shibuya and Shikuya Fly to the Wilderness” (Home-Press Printing), which was included on Haaretz’s 50 best books list in 2021.
The initial and spontaneous encounter between the two led to a series of book reading events. These evolved into an album and an extended show that includes more stories and songs by Kantor. Some of them are already familiar to many kids (“Caution! Bellybutton”, published by Kinneret Press in 2014, is a favorite in many homes and kindergartens), some have been published on different platforms (for example, as part of the Helicon’s “Flying Horse” series) and others are new or will be published this year. In the show, Godlevsky will accompany them with her exceptional live harp music.
The album version of “What’s Behind the Sky?” was recently released with the support of ACUM. All proceeds from the album’s Bandcamp page go to aid the residents of the Gaza Envelope evacuated from their home following the Oct 7 attack and ensuing war.
