King Solomon Puzzle
The Exhibition is open during Musrara Mix (28-30.5 from 19:30-23:00 PM)
For four days in the 2022-23 academic year, we had the rare and special opportunity to stay in a creative incubator, where we could explore, experiment, test, and create diverse artistic actions.
We were invited by the King Solomon Hotel in Tiberas for two 40-hour stays at the hotel. This was back in March 2023. The entire country was in turmoil with demonstrations and protests. The night before the trip was a historic and unprecedented protest night that became known as: “Gallant Night.” Around 4am, it was decided we would not cancel the trip. On this trip and the trip that followed, we created our own “time capsule,” disconnected from the turbulent world outside. We allowed ourselves to work in a kind of limbo that refused to respond to time and place. For a couple of moments, we made time transparent, suspended our relationship with the place. We – the department’s students and faculty – locked ourselves in a hotel. We explored its surroundings, wandered, observed, stared at the Sea of Galilee, arranged “still life” compositions and photographed them (using objects and utensils we grabbed from the hotel’s kitchen), used the various spaces as a backdrop for staged scenes, set up lighting and built a studio where we photographed the hotel staff.
40 hours later, we reconnected to time and place.
The exhibition presents some of the pieces created during our stay at the hotel.
