“Wherever I may go, I go to nowhere land” / Dina von Schwarze-Mastai
Reflections on the poetry of Mascha Kaléko, which explored homesickness and the loss of her homeland. Kaléko belongs to the generation of female Jewish writers who wrote in the German-speaking realm, survived the collective trauma of the Holocaust through exile and displacement, and continued to write in their mother tongue, which became the language of the perpetrators.
Dina von Schwarze-Mastai is a clinical psychologist, director of the Children and Youth Clinic at the Jaffa Community Mental Health Center, and an advocate for a community oriented and culturally sensitive public psychology. She is a translator of German-Hebrew poetry, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in the Department of Literature at Bar-Ilan University, focusing on the connection between trauma, language, and testimony.
Scattergories – Wandering and Migration / Yakie Ayalon and his documentary film “Scattergories” (“Eretz/Ir”)
In a talk that includes screening of excerpts from his docu film “Scattergories,” Ayalon will talk about Nigeria, which he considers a second home, and share his long journey alongside the Essien family that the film follows in their fight to return to Israel. The docu explores questions of identity and belonging, and asks what is the true meaning of “home.”
Ayalon will delve into questions about the individual, human, and Israeli existence: What comprises our identity, and what does it mean to be Israeli?
Yakie Ayalon is a documentary director and producer, and chief executive assistant and production and project director at Musrara School.
The Nomad Archetype in the Realm of Branding / Nitsan Baider
In the world of marketing and branding, archetypes are sometimes employed to represent the brand’s persona. We will discuss the significance of choosing an archetype for a brand, and focus on the archetype of the nomad-explorer. We will look at examples from the commercial world: brands that speak the language of the nomad, how they connect with their target audience, and what this says about our inner world.
